Discover the secrets of one of the oldest Czech royal castles whose history dates back to the time of king Přemysl Otakar II. Since the mid-13th century, the Svojanov castle has been guarding the Křetínka Valley with the Trstěnice Route, an ancient trade artery linking Bohemia with Moravia. The castle acquired its present shape after fires in the 16th and 19th centuries and therefore you can admire the unique combination of the Gothic and the Empire style architecture.
You will get an insight into the Svojanov legends and scary stories when you visit the mysterious castle cellar with the torture chamber. The House of Armigers will introduce the life of the castle garrison at the end of the 15th century to you. You can try on a chain mail and inspect armors, a collection of weapons or board games that the soldiers of Svojanov used to play.
The last construction period in the history of the castle is represented by the Empire Palace. If you go on a tour, you can look forward to seeing a unique exhibit which is the royal crown of the castle's founder, Přemysl Otakar II.
The visit to Svojanov would be incomplete without an ascent to the 26-meter-high guarding tower. After climbing 84 steps, you will have an amazing view of the valley of the Křetínka River.
The atmosphere of times long past awakens in Svojanov during many cultural events throughout the year. You can look forward to concerts, theater gigs, performances of swordsmen and jugglers or demonstrations of traditional crafts.
If you want to have a complete collection of experiences from Svojanov, take the opportunity to be accommodated right at the castle and so to be taken back in time for several centuries at least for a few days.
