When Vysoké Mýto is mentioned, perhaps everyone remembers the automobile and later bus tradition of this city. But few people know who is behind it. The answer not only to this question can be found in the Museum of Czech Bodywork.
Future owners of cars from well-known Czech and international brands such as Škoda, Tatra, Ford, Chevrolet and Rolls-Royce headed to Vysoké Mýt for the sole purpose of getting a bodywork from master designer Josef Sodomka. He seized the opportunity at the end of the First World War and steered his father's family business, which until then had produced carriages, into the world of engines. This is how the famous company Carrosserie Sodomka was born. It soon became clear that it was a more than successful choice. The customers soon included personalities such as actor Jan Werich, businessman Jan Antonín Baťa, the last owner of the Český Krumlov estate Adolf Schwarzenberg or the wife of the Czechoslovak president Hana Benešová.
Even under the weight of the past decades, the shine of the First Republic's automotive elegance has not faded. In the museum, you can view Sodomko's famous cars, such as the Tatra 57B limousine, the advanced Aero 50 Dynamik convertible, or the Škoda VOS armored government special. The no less interesting interactive part of the exhibition will show you what process cars had to go through before they saw the light of day.
