The Rococo castle was built in the second half of the 18th century by Count Jean-Antoin Harbuval de Chamarè in the French style of summer residences. Thanks to its architectural uniqueness and beauty it is often called the “Czech Versailles.”
The castle grounds in Nové Hrady offer you many interesting experiences. After taking a tour through the ccastle interior you can tour the newly landscaped French garden with fountains and a decorative vegetable garden in the second court. Furthermore, the castle grounds offer an outdoor amphitheatre or English park, where you can take the path of the Stations of the Cross to see the remains of the original Gothic castle. You should not miss the First Czech Museum of Cycling, which is located in the reconstructed building of the Baroque grange and where you can admire the tens of exhibitions from a private collection including bicycles from the oldest velocipedes dating back to Austro-Hungarian times all the way to modern road specialities.

Toulovcovy maštale
Toulovcovy maštale
Go on an adventure to sandstone rock towns, ravines and canyons, which in ancient times served as a refuge for the robber knight Wanderers from Třemošná. Today, the area is a paradise for fans of hiking and light adrenaline cycling.
The sandstone rock dwellings in Zderaz prove that a house does not always have to be made of bricks. During the 19th century, these served as cellars, workshops and living quarters for the local less well-off inhabitants.
The wooden lookout tower halfway between Jarošov and Budislaví offers a view of the nearby and more distant surroundings. With a bit of luck, your eye will see as far as Žďárské vrchy and Polabí or the peaks of Železný hory and Jeseníky.
The tallest of the three lookout towers in the Toulovcovy maštale area rises above Paseky near Proseč. Its name commemorates the writer Teréza Nováková, who was inspired by the surrounding landscape in her work.
A small piece of Italy seems to have been imprinted into the architecture of Litomyšl's Renaissance jewel. The castle, which will enchant you with thousands of sgraffito decorations on the facade and a unique Classicist theatre, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
Take a walk along the massive medieval walls that still guard the centre of the royal dowry town of Polička. More than 1,200 metres long Gothic fortification with 19 towers is unique in the whole of Central Europe.
