A building that could tell a long story of Litomyšl is the Renaissance House At the Knights'. It is situated on Smetana's Square not far from the former town hall. After one of the fires of the town, the stonemason Blažek began to construct it in 1540. A real gem of the Renaissance burgher architecture is guarded by a pair of knights who gave the house its current name and also inspired Alois Jirásek when writing one of the short stories of the book Maloměstské historie. If you look at the front of the house carefully, you will spot the statues of a student, a merchant, a mermaid or a unicorn.
For more artistic experiences, accept the invitation to the expositions of the municipal gallery which is located in the valuable building of the House At the Knights'. In addition to the current exhibitions, you will be able to admire the uniquely preserved Renaissance coffered ceiling.
