Graceful ladies, noble courtiers, valiant knights, all of these would we expect to see at an appealing Renaissance chateau. Mysterious stories full of magic would be expected here a little less. And yet they are waiting for you at the chateau in Moravská Třebová which was built on the site of the original castle founded in the 13th century.
The charming chateau, in whose architecture the Renaissance elements were used for the very first time in our country, will present you the treasures of Moravská Třebová on its basic tour. The exhibition depicts the history of the chateau and the town as well as the lifestyle from the late 15th to the early 20th centuries.
You will find yourself at an even earlier period when visiting a medieval torture chamber. The coldness of the former castle cellar, the gloomy atmosphere of the executioner's room and the creaking and squeaking of torture instruments shows the execution of the medieval right to die in an authentic light. Yet the mystery does not end there. Bubbling potions, a slight whiff of sulfur and here and there even thick smoke are lining from the alchemical laboratory of the Italian master Bonacina. The astrologer, alchemist and court physician of Ladislav Velen from Žerotín devoted his life to the search of gold and the elixir of eternal youth while staying on the local estate.
To complete your visit, take a seat in the local café and then continue exploring the beauties of Moravská Třebová and its surroundings.

Medieval torture chamber and alchemical laboratory
Description
Moravská Třebová was granted criminal law in 1406 and torture law is the subject of an exhibition called The Medieval Torture Chamber, which is located in the cellars of the Moravian-Třebíč chateau. The exhibition will introduce you to the inhuman practices of torture. It is here that you can feel the horrible atmosphere of the torture chamber and executioner's house and try out various instruments of torture and coercive means such as a Spanish shoe, pillory, mittens, stool for witches or rack.
The darkest period of Moravian-Třebíč history then alternates with a period of flourishing art and knowledge, which is also represented by the alchemical laboratory of Master Bonacina, who was the alchemist and court physician to Ladislav Velen of Žerotín. In the tower exhibition you will get acquainted with his mysterious work, you will be introduced to the secrets of Renaissance alchemy and tools of practical alchemy, you will experience magical alchemical experiments and you will look into the rich alchemical and astrological symbolism. You will see the guardian of the alchemist's laboratory with your own eyes - Golem.
